Bill attended Youngstown State University studying Mechanical engineering and special systems design as a tool and die maker joining the engineering staff at General Motors, Lordstown, OH.  In 1965, Bill simultaneously opened Great Lakes Archery to distribute sporting goods to retail hunting markets.  Soon after, he opened Gartland’s Custom Archery, a Pro Shop with 24 indoor lanes, which quickly grew to a 60 page Catalog Mail Order business, grossing $5 million per year.

After a few years of both working at GM and running the retail outlet, Bill took a sales position with PSE.  He quickly learned all aspects of sales and account service in the hunting and outdoor industry, and in 1973 founded William J. Gartland & Associates.  An accomplished Trophy, Archery and Gun Hunter, Bill Gartland, Sr. is a Pope & Young Club Lifetime Associate Member, a member of the National Rifle Association, and a member of Safari Club International.  He holds several patents on sporting goods related products.  Bill continues to hunt around the world.
